GENERAL: MTSKHETA DESCRIPTION

HISTORY: Mtskheta was the ancient capital of Kartli, the East Georgian Kingdom from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD, and was also the location where Christianity was proclaimed as the official religion of Georgia in 337. To date, it still remains the headquarters of the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church. The favorable natural conditions, its strategic location at the intersection of trade routes, and its close relations with the Roman Empire, the Persian Empire, Syria, Palestine, and Byzantium, generated and stimulated the development of Mtskheta and led to the integration of different cultural influences with local cultural traditions. After the 6th century AD, when the capital was transferred to Tbilisi, Mtskheta continued to retain its leading role as one of the important cultural and spiritual centers of the country.
DESCRIPTION: There are some traders and a small shop in front of the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral where you can buy souvenirs and drinks. GENERAL: SIGHNAGHI DESCRIPTION

HISTORY: The territory of the modern-day town has been settled since the Paleolithic period and was known as Hereti in the Middle Ages, and as Kiziqi after the 15th century. Sighnaghi (literally, “harbor” in Turkish) as a settlement is first recorded in the early 18th century. In 1762, King EREKLE II of Georgia sponsored the construction of the town and erected a fortress to defend the area from marauding attacks by Dagestan tribesmen. As of the 1770 census, Sighnaghi was settled by 100 families, chiefly craftsmen and merchants. When Georgia was annexed by Imperial Russia in 1801, Sighnaghi was officially granted town status and became a centre of Signakh uyezd within Tiflis Governorate in 1802.
DESCRIPTION: Sighnaghi's economy is dominated by production of wine and traditional carpets. Sighnaghi has recently undergone a fundamental reconstruction program and has become an important center of Georgia's tourist industry. In a small section of Sighnaghi, several ladies offer a picturesque array of knitted goods for sale for astoundingly cheap prices. Here you can buy Georgian socks with traditional patterns and local wool, hats, scarves, slippers, and baby booties.

In 2001 UNESCO acknowledged this music as “a masterpiece of the world’s intangible cultural heritage” and its unique, slightly dissonant style has not changed for centuries. The songs, made up of three-partharmonies, are still the life blood of modern society.
Master class of Georgian Dances (The dances perfectly capture the natural gracefulness and beauty of Georgian women and the courage, honor and respectfulness of Georgian men. The male dancers perform spectacular leaps and turns, incredible spins and can also boast a highly original technique for, unlike any other dancers in the world, they dance on their toes without the aid of “block” shoes.
